Erin Litchfield FPQP®, Client Service Associate, Paraplanner, KDI Wealth Management
In a world where communication has become lightning fast, it’s easy to forget the artistry of putting pen to paper. Handwritten letters force me to slow down, to be intentional, and to savor each word, each curve of the pen as it meets the perfectly selected stationary paper. There’s a certain magic in knowing that someone took the time to gather their thoughts, physically write them out, and create something tangible and lasting. This practice has become rare, and that rarity gives it even more value.
Writing isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s a meditation. The process brings me into the present moment. With each stroke, I think about the person I’m writing to, their personality, the things we’ve shared, and the moments that connect us. Writing is my way of capturing these connections and holding on to them in a tangible form. It creates a safe space for honesty where I’m able to express thoughts that may be hard to say out loud. I can take my time to find the right words, the ones that convey exactly what I want to say, without urgency or pressure. Writing helps me process my own thoughts and emotions and see things more clearly.
Handwritten recipes carry a similar meaning. Each recipe has a story behind it that is tied to family, friends, and special occasions. For me, recipes or the handwritten notes on them become much more than instructions for cooking; they are part of a legacy meant to be passed down. I think of them as letters in their own way, each one holding a memory, a bit of history. Reading them, I’m reminded of family gatherings, kitchens filled with warmth, and the comfort of a meal prepared with love. Cooking from these recipes feels like recreating a piece of the past, and sharing the meal keeps the tradition alive.
Letters and recipes have always played a significant role in my life. Some of my most treasured possessions are ones I’ve received from loved ones, especially from people who are no longer here, like my grandparents. Their handwriting slightly faded with age, yet perfectly preserved is like a little time capsule; it brings back the shared memories, feelings, and the person behind the writing. Their words feel like a piece of them that I can hold onto, a way to feel close to them even though they’re physically gone. Their words hold a piece of them, preserving shared memories and love in a way that digital communication cannot.
A handwritten recipe or letter isn’t something that gets lost in the digital world; it’s a carefully crafted gift and keepsake, a way of preserving memories, allowing us to relive them. It’s a tradition I hope to carry forward, writing for the people I care about, so they can feel that same warmth and closeness, even years down the line. For me, writing isn’t just about the words on the page; it’s about the feeling behind them. It’s a way to show someone they’re worth my time, my effort, and my thoughts. That’s why I cherish it and believe it’s so important to hold onto.
My role as a Client Service Associate at KDI Wealth Management is much like the art of writing handwritten letters—it’s about thoughtfulness, intention, and creating something meaningful. Just as a handwritten note requires time, care, and a personal touch, every client interaction is an opportunity to craft a connection that feels genuine and lasting. I strive to approach each task with the same mindfulness as putting pen to paper, considering the unique needs, personality, and story of every client I work with.
Like letters and recipes that carry memories and legacies, my work is about more than just handling details—it’s about preserving trust and ensuring that each client feels valued and cared for. I find joy in taking the time to make things personal, whether it’s a warm greeting, a thoughtful response, or going the extra mile to solve a problem. It’s my way of showing that every client is worth the effort, and is loved, creating a sense of comfort and connection that they can rely on.
